Looking for a location that will make your Instagram feed look more interesting? This pink lagoon in Mexico may be the perfect place for you. It’s so PINK that most people start to feel like they’ve gone out of this world and gone to another place.
This natural wonder can be found in Las Coloradas, a small fishermen town in the eastern corner of the Yucatecan coast. Besides pink lagoons, this part of Yucatan is also famous for picturesque and unordinary landscapes and its giant salt factory.
“I couldn’t believe what I saw. I had never heard of a pink sea; it’s a unique and magical place, like a dream,” said Marisa Hampe, an Instagramer who discovered the pink lagoon during a trip to Mexico.
So how exactly does the lagoon get so pink? The science behind the colour comes from tiny microorganisms which live in the lagoon, like brine shrimp and red plankton. They dye the water with their carotene and it becomes pink.
