This incredible sculpture installation was created by artist Phillip K Smith III, in the deserts of Joshua Tree, California. By replacing the old weathered horizontal siding with strips of long reflective mirrors, he transformed the neglected and crumbling structure into a seemingly miraculous optical illusion. The results are simply stunning, and you have to look closely to really notice how special it truly is.
Phillip replaced every other board with horizontal mirrors…
… and the result reflects the desert surroundings.
The effect almost makes the cabin appear invisible in places, playing tricks with light and the surroundings.
Phillip says “the project is about tapping into the quiet and the pace of change of the desert. When you slow down and align yourself with the desert, the project begins to unfold before you.”
