That said, her are five sights that are so wonderfully beautiful you may well stubble to believe they exist anywhere other than in fiction…
1. Ruby Falls, Tennessee, United States
In 1928 excavators uncovered one of the most breathtaking waterfalls in the world some 1,120 feet below the surface of Lookout Mountain, Chattanooga. The waterfall itself is 145 feet high and glows a fabulous pink colour due to the rocks around it, giving it the name Ruby Falls.
Research suggests that it was created some 200 to 240 million years ago at a time when eastern Tennessee was still below sea level. As well as the falls, visitors can also view hundreds of stalactites, stalagmites, columns, drapery and flowstone within Lookout Mountain, all of which is nearly as surreal to behold as Ruby Falls itself.
2. Fingal’s Cave, Scotland
Fingal’s Cave, Scotland is similar a structure to the Giant’s Causeway across the sea in Ireland. The cave is filled with brilliant hexagonal shaped rocks which were formed by solidified lava which was pushed up from the earth and revealed when the sea eroded the rock and dirt around them.
Stepping into the cave is like stepping into another world and provides a truly surreal experience. Over the years the cave has become shrouded in legend in folklore and today features heavily in popular culture.
3. River of Flowers, Holland
Set amidst the Keukenhof gardens, the worlds largest flower garden which is planted with over 7 million flower bulbs each year, is the River of Flowers. This breathtaking river flows gently through the gardens and in places the water cannot even be seen as it is overcome by hundreds of blooming flowers which decorate its surface.
The sight is a dream to behold, especially due to the vibrant nature of the flowers and the gorgeous setting around you.
4. The Magic Forest, China
Set in Shanghai, China, is the Magic Forest, a truly incredible sight which makes visitors feel as though they are in a dream. It is a small park (once a major road) which is set in the middle of several major traffic routes, giving residents and city goers a slight relief from the urban view around them.
The trees are decorated with thousands of tiny lights, many of them star shaped, which illuminate the small forest. By night the Magic Forest truly comes alive as the blue lights shine in vibrant contrast to the lush green trees around them.
5. Kawachi Fuji Garden, Japan
Located in the city of Kitakyushu, Japan, Kawachi Fuji Garden hosts an incredible 150 Wisteria flowering plants spanning 20 different species. The garden is truly enchanting and walking beneath the flowers is truly magical as it seems as though they’re raining upon you.
Most notably in the gardens is the Wisteria Flower Tunnel, a mesmerising sight that can easily fool visitors into thinking they’re dreaming.
