Treehotel, Harads, Sweden. This might be one of the most original hotels ever! The camouflaged cubes, scattered in the woods, blend with the natural environment. The guests can choose to stay at six differently themed cubes: Cabin, Mirrorcube, Bird’s Nest, Blue Cone, UFO and Dragonfly. The Tree Sauna offers Nordic relaxation. Set just outside the small village of Harads, 60 km south of the Arctic Circle, the Treehotel enables guests to slow down, switch off and breathe more deeply. With the help of some visionary architects, owners Britta and Kent Lindvall have created a slice of magic that not only combines childhood fantasy with comfort and sophistication but does so with the lightest of environmental footprints.
The individual “treerooms”, are as diverse as could be, and are constructed to give comfort and yet respect the surrounding natural beauty. Having interesting names like ,“The Mirrorcube”, “The Bird’s Nest”, “The UFO”, “Blue Cone” and “The Cabin”, they are each unique and each one provides a phenomenal view of the forest and the Lule River. There are plans to have as many as 24 rooms eventually in the complex.
The decor inside is also custom designed, with a clean, Scandinavian aesthetic. Bleached wood interiors with white walls and white furnishings and rugs are true to this type of design, and add an appropriateness to the surroundings.Think up scaled cabin in the woods , up in the air, a la Swedish decor.
Fly from London Heathrow to Lulea with SAS (via Stockholm). You will be met you at Lulea airport and welcomed to Lapland. Your adventure begins immediately with a 1.5 hr guided tour through Luleå and along the Luleå river valley to the Treehotel. During the tour you will visit the world heritage Gammelstad Church village which is the best preserved example of a type of town that was once widespread throughout northern Scandinavia. Upon arrival check-in to your chosen cabin. The afternoon/evening is at your leisure giving you time to absorb and breathe in the atmosphere. We can arrange dinner in the guesthouse should you so wish.
Breakfast is taken at your leisure in the adjoining guesthouse after which you can join a walking tour of Harads - transformed in the winter months by the sparkling white landscape. You’ll experience the culture, architecture and history of a typical small northern Swedish village and the walk ends at a local residence where you are invited into the family home. The afternoon and evening is at your leisure, you may wish to simply relax in the Tree Sauna, you may be lucky and be rewarded with a display of the Northern Lights (winter time only) or if you are travelling in the summer you can admire the Midnight sun from your cabin.
After breakfast it’s time to check out and join a guided tour for the return journey to Lulea for your return flight home. The tour takes you though some very remote wilderness forest where there is a strong chance to see the local wildlife including reindeer and moose. Then onto Storforsen, one of Europe’s largest rapids and waterfalls, where you will follow the scenic Pite river on the way to Luleå airport for your flight home.
